St Davids Lifeboat
Station History Published 2009 St Davids RNLI are pleased to
announce the publication of the latest edition of “The Story of the St Davids
Lifeboats” by Dr George Middleton MBE. The book was first published in the early 1970’s and told the
history of the station from it’s opening in 1869 when a rowing and sailing
lifeboat was kept on a carriage in the centre of St Davids. It also covers the
tragic events of 1910 when the lifeboat “Gem” and three of her crew were lost in
Ramsey Sound and the various award winning rescues performed by the crews over
the 140 years that the station has been open. This latest version brings to
story right up-to-date in 2009. Thanks to the sponsorship of several local companies all
proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to the St Davids Branch of
the RNLI. The book is available from Dr George Middleton, 52 Bryn Road,
St Davids, Pembrokeshire, SA62 6QU priced at £3.00 including P&P for one
copy or £5.50 for two copies. Copies are also available from St Davids Bookshop, 5a The
